| What's The Deal?
Before we get a barrage of hate mail from 28 Days fans, let it be known that the Drugs actually like some of the fine music produced by 28 Days. This letter is not a criticism of 28 Days as a band.
Jay,
2 Years ago (I doubt you'll remember me but you might
remember the conversation)
We stood in the stand at the Big Day Out and argued
over the relevance/potential danger of Rammstein
at a youth music festival.
You objected to their presence, because you thought
that in their native language (German) they might be
trying to influence the moshing kids below.
You said (Not speaking a word of German yourself) that
their messages were clear and negative.
That they sung about the benefits of Nazism and of
Arian ideals (in an effort to further what, I don't
know? Given the Non German speaking, multi-racial
audience).
A naive rational worthy of Fred Nile himself, Muslim =
Terrorist, German = Nazi.
I argued that your opinion could be used regarding
Opera, saying Perhaps Pavarotti was preaching hate?
How would we know? It's all in Italian and let face
it, they weren't exactly the good guys during WW2.
Still you persisted saying "No man! You don't know"
with your hands making the appropriate 'word up'
gestures "I'm up there and I'm doin' it and every year
the crowd gets more violent".
The sad and tragic irony of it all was that a young
girl in the mosh lost her life that night.
Not during the crazy, entertaining, pyrotechnical
Rammstein, with their big rubber dick hosing down the
audience.
Rather it was the hate mongering, English speaking
Limp Bizkit that caused this death.
Instructing the audience to lift girls up to shoulder
level and then asking an audience of young, war primed
men to "Turn around and look at the bitches that break
our hearts everyday" and calling the incredibly over
worked security guard a "big bald fuck" further
denying him of any crowd respect in his efforts to
calm them.
This year 2003 I once again made the effort to share
the hot, dusty, rock atmosphere of the Sydney Big Day
Out
You guys were on early and didn't clash with anyone
else I wanted to watch so I took my place in the
stand. I was delighted when I heard you opening with
'Sucker' a great song and along with 'Rip it up' and
that "Respect is what you Ha-a-ad" song, among my
favourite Australian rock releases.
At some point in your show you began to talk about
Faggots, Sluts and Whores. Not just using these
expressions like the common place stage expletives but
labelling specific people with these very negative
terms.
Hateful phrases like "This song is about a fucking
whore" a "Slut" that cheated on one of your friends.
A deceitful and potentially painful circumstance I
agree but surely you or at least one of your band
mates has perpetrated similar acts of infidelity.
Then after the guitarist's bold political statement
"Do you guys know a little Faggot called John Howard?"
(I doubt the Liberal's reputation will every recover
from that one.. geeez!)
You playfully cover his politically incorrect faux pas
with some immature 'penis length' jokes and a wacky
locker room story about how you fucked one another in
your hotel room the night before.
Basically Jay, Despite your grand standing and soap
boxing 2 years ago regarding this very issue.
Your improper, unhealthy and bigoted messages of hate
and vilification are far worse then anything I've ever
heard from a member of Rammstein.
Are the concert going youth meant to derive from your
show that they are only welcome if they're (a)
Heterosexual and (b) Not promiscuous.
I welcome your reply,
Ian Baddley
