Was Sport Really Better in the 70's?
The 2nd innings is always the toughest, you've taken a few knocks, the
dressing room celebrations are starting to take there toll and your
protector is starting to chafe your privates.
No sooner had we stopped play for a tea break that the Drugs find themselves
back on the road and headed south to the beachside city of Wollongong.
We arrive late at the Oxford, load in and head off for dinner, I
stay at the venue with John Citizen to have a beer & chat with the locals.
Soon enough Stiffler hit the stage looking kinda like the Porkers without
the Fat & Age & Ska. So actually they were nothing like the Porkers except
for their shirts. I was personally very surprised with Stiffler as they were
very tight and funny ( I'm describing their show, not the sex we had ).
Next up were Unpaid Debt who seem to be following us around the country like
the twisted groupies they are. Also sounding very tight tonight, we'll have
to fix that later.
Having had no food the alcohol is starting to catch up to me and I recall
rambling to Harry Snow & Traxy about Edward Rooney from Ferris Buellers Day
off, at least David Live & I found it amusing.
John Citizen and I then bumped into some lovely locals who brought us up to
date with the latest news in the Bold & the Beautiful, I didn't really
follow so I just nodded politely.
The crowd at tonight's show were one of the most energetic I've seen, they
didn't stop rocking for the entire show. When the keyboard stand collapsed
two people were kind enough to hold the keyboard up in the air while I
finished playing Prole, thanks again. We all had a great time and hung
around afterwards chatting with lots of new friends.
Day 2 we find ourselves in the very strange suburb of Blaxland, not that the
people are strange, there just doesn't seem to be anything here. But sure
enough when a world class band like the Drugs hits town the people come. ADD
are playing tonight so as they set up their amazing rig of wires and gadgetry
that I couldn't even begin to describe, the Drugs hit the asian restaurant
next door.
Back in time to see the start of ADD's set it's good to see they've improved
since I last saw them at one of their first shows. They have improved their
stage show and seemed a lot more polished and comfortable.
Traxy and I decide to do something very out of character and have a little
flutter on the TAB dog races.
After I finally work out how to fill out the forms we place our first bet.
David Lives looks on like a proud father watching his sons walk for the first time.
Unpaid Debt take the stage soon after playing to an almost local crowd, they
seem to feel a bit more at home on the larger stage than previous nights.
Showtime rolls around and we put on our uniforms and take the stage.
Tonight's show goes well from my point of view, with everyone in a fine
drunken form. I not sure where we got the energy from but everyone
played like it was the first night on tour, I have a sneaking suspicion that
Harry Snow is taking steroids and I believe David Live was given some kind
of diuretic from his mother, Mrs Live.
As we closed the show Ian Baddley jumped onto my back causing us to fall
over the foldback and onto the floor, during this mess my guitar slammed
into his back causing a large graze. This should appear on the team injuries
page soon.
Stay tuned for innings three, we head off to Byron Bay, Brisbane &
Maroochydore.
To everyone who had a drink with us, watched us have fun and had a laugh.
Thanks & we’ll see you next time.
